INTRODUCTION
Today’s episode will be with Quin from Ever Changing Horizon. He is a vanlifer who has been on the road for a few years in several different vans. He chose van life as means to get to really cool places and to be able to share those places with others through his love of photography. We get a peek into how he started in van life and the beginnings to his photography career.
A Beginning to Van life
Learning how Van life started for Quin and the different vehicles he has owned.
-
Quin's first van was a 1985 Toyota, which he like to call a space van. He got it for $4000 and converted it in two days which consisted of taking out the seats and adding in some wood and a mattress.
- Unfortunately Van life did not start out smoothly for Quin as the Toyota broke down on a trip to Utah. It was a full year before he decided to jump back in.
- His photography career now in full swing he decided to purchase a fully converted van from Our Home On Wheels.

Travel & Photography during Covid
- During Covid Quin has spent quite a bit of time in Mexico scoping out beautiful spots.
- He has also spent a lot of time along the West Coast and the PNW.
- Covid has allowed him the space to slow down and work on fully converting out his van.
- Although he still feels that life has been busy, he hasn't travel as much as before and is enjoying being able to slow down.
Becoming a photographer
- Before beginning his photography career Quin was an accountant. His family and Quin loved that he had a job that was stable and that he would have for life.
- Quin came up with his name, Ever Changing Horizon during a long night hosting a wilderness survival camp. He had this idea of this epic road trip and see all the places he had wanted to see. He wanted to create a blog where he wrote about his travels and began to think about a name for the blog. He liked the idea of three words so he began writing every word that came to my mind that would describe what he would get out of the trip. Horizon, stars, fire, were some of the words. After sending to friends and family, Ever Changing Horizon was unanimously chosen.
- His began his photography journey by taking photos on his phone and purchased his first camera in 2016. He was able to leave his job in 2016 with savings and pursue a career in photography. By 2017 he had began to make an income from his passion.
- Other than taking photos for companies, he has learned the value in brand collaborations which is now one of many income streams for Quin.
- Quin attributes his success to learning to lean into his personality. Taking risks, finding unique spots, and doing what he loves to find these shots that are different from others.
